Monday Miniatures - Salamanders Company Champion

The reason this miniature was painted can be put down to my perfectionism getting the better of me.

Whilst in the process of finishing my unit of company heroes, I discovered my company champion's arms had been misaligned and his sword wasn't positioned correctly.

So, I tried taking the arm off (an arm that had been secured in place with plastic glue, by the way) and proceeded to tear his arm almost entirely off.

By some miracle I shaved his torso down, reattached the missing chunk of the model, and managed to clean it up in such a way it wasn't noticeable. But I could still see the damage on the model if I looked extremely closely, and it still bothered me.

In a series of unhinged events, I threw the entire company hero champion in the bin (for a brief period - obviously I took him out and finished him later, as there's photos of him on the blog) and decided, right then and there, to paint up the limited edition company champion.

And, well, here he is:

I'm not sure if it qualifies as irony or not, but in that time, I found out my Librarius Conclave list was awful, and moved to Dark Angel Gladius, thus removing any need for a unit of company heroes.

Or any of the Librarians I painted.

Such is life.

But this model is genuinely cool – the pose is cool, the laurel wreath on the helmet is cool (I did contemplate painting his helmet black so I could paint the laurel a more organic green, but it didn't take) and he's a genuinely cool model. It's just he goes from "replacing a model that doesn't need to be replaced because you cannot see the damage on the model he's replacing" to "a fine addition to my collection."

Next up is more Firedrakes – having locked down what I feel is a good army list (for now, at least) I'm going to try and get my DA Gladius Force all painted up in time for Herocon.

Wish me luck.
