I'm not terribly fond of Primarchs in 40k. Or, at least, loyalist Primarchs.
The Chaos Primarchs I don't mind, as it gives the setting a sort of "mankind overcoming impossible odds" vibe, as the next generation of Space Marine heroes like Dante, Logan, and Marneus have to do battle against monsters made real.
At least until you have to do battle against Fulgrim and then it's open season on weird snake monsters.
But we don't live in my magical christmasland where Bobby G and Lionel stayed gone, and Lionel has been fun to play in Wrath of the Rock, so...

I stole the colour scheme from a user on the Dark Angels subreddit, who posted a sample image of a brighter Dark Angel, that featured a less harsh transition in the highlights.
I am not fond of the traditional method of painting Dark Angel armour, where the highlight colour is so harsh it gives the model a sort of "tron" vibe. This is overall brighter, but the highlight is far less harsh.
It was my first attempt using Army Painter's "Warpaint Fanatic" range - specifically Guardian Green, Angel Green, and Eternal Hunt. I also bought Greenskin, but I found the highlight to be too subtle.

The colours went into my airbrush fantastically, and it reminded me how much better it is using colours in dropper bottles for airbrushing.
The other recipe I used was for the Lion pelt - Boneyard shade, Reikland flesh-shade, and then highlighted with Boneyard mid. It gives a real organic pelt look, and I was very happy with the effect.
Otherwise I tried to use the same colours with my Salamanders to avoid him looking like a complete stranger - so a grey cloak, lots of gold trim.
This takes me extremely close to having a complete 2k army, something I am excited about and will likely play until 11th in the middle of the year.

Catch you next time,
