For those rubes in the peanut gallery shouting "who?", Sol Dac'Tyr is the Salamanders' Master of the Fleet. Given that's not different to the title of this article, the important part for the rubes is that "Master of the Fleet" bit.

Why? Because Uriel Ventris, a relevant model in a number of Ultramarines armies in 10th edition, is also the master of the fleet. If you're picking up what I'm putting down.

For those more sophisticated rubes, you will also note that Mr. Dac'Tyr does not have his traditional 4th company badge, and that's just because I've taken an absolute ton of creative licence. Sol is also supposed to have a bionic eye and a ritual dragon scar above his eye. He doesn't have either of those things, and the 4th company's field is black but the head is dark green - something that would look awful - and so I haven't bothered.

But he does have his name tag on:

This model was also completed under base-a-palooza, and so was the first to use the new basing scheme outlined here. Yes, it does look different, and no, it is not particularly noticeable. But I noticed, which was just top shelf for my mental health.

I also had another, more successful experiment wherein I magnetised a plasma pistol and bolt rifle arm so Mr. Dac'tyr can cosplay as both Cato Sicarius, and Uriel Ventris. Whilst the basing took a little while to come together, magnetisation worked remarkably well, even with the rubbing against other parts of the miniature a problem partially solved by the miracle of AK Ultra Matte.

This model, despite all this, does not make me happy. There's something about it that does not spark joy. I can't put my finger on why. The decals look right, the magnetisation was a success, even the basing, although initially driving me insane, has gradually settled in my mind.

Maybe once he finally makes it to the tabletop I'll feel better about it. With his completion, we crawl ever closer to finally making it there.
