This is a very special day for me, dear reader.
Ever since I returned to painting the Green Machine, I have felt behind the eight ball - the constant meta shifts, the eternal need to paint more miniatures. Let's just say, Games Workshop was, and is, winning.
However - for a brief moment, I have managed to poke my head above the clouds, and finish this unit of scouts:

This unit caused a crisis for me - initially, I was happy to paint the shoulder pads black and use my standard 3D printed icons from Pop Goes the Monkey
However, doing a cursory search of my own chapter's history revealed that the scout company (and technically all of the vanguard marines, too, but more on that later) have white shoulderpads with a black icon.
Seems simple enough, replace the white transfer with a black transfer.
Not so fast.
Firstly, because I had already superglued the icons to the scout shoulderpads I had to remove them and scrape the glue off. This caused the shoulderpads to be uneven - a similar sort of experience to scraping the Dark Angel logo from my Firedrakes, except self-inflicted as the shoulder pads were initially smooth.
Secondly, the default transfer kit only has white Salamander logos. I had to dig deep to find my old forgeworld transfers I ordered more than 15 years ago to find black Salamander heads.
And luckily, I held onto my Salamander upgrade packs which have black flame sigils on them.

Of course, I was angsting the whole time about how they would look once the varnish went on - and as per usual, I was totally bailed out by the magic of AK Ultra Matte (praise be, number 183).
But the greatest news, is that with that scout unit being finished, I have officially completed the first (probably closer to fifth) iteration of my Stormlance "Dark Angel" army:

With this, my goal of playing every two day event in Canberra (bar my own, of course) looks supremely achievable.
And, of course, here is my mandatory 2026 hobby scoreboard update:
6 Inner Circle Companions
2 Chaplains
5 Scouts
